Work Rant

Back to work yesterday. Things change by the day there. Rumour has it my job is safe now. And the dayshift lab job may still in the end be mine. But the company will not confirm that.

This company seems to have taken an approach that is anti-employee. Dishonesty is rampant. Secrets. Basically there is not much communication from them that is not designed to cause stress for their employees. That isn't even me being cynical either. It's just the way it is now. I have read and heard about companies being ruthless and heartless (see this blog and comments http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/understanding-mgt/heartless-8362 ) but I had never experienced it before so personally. My wife and mother-in-law went through something similar a few years ago at the telephone company. In the end they were both laid off via downsizing. But it took months of bullshit to get there. I am experiencing months of bullshit now. I have to say it has taken its toll on me psychologically in a way I had not expected. You would hope that a job would not hold so much sway on your psyche but when you spend so much time at a place and there is so much negativity it just gets to you after awhile. It is very frustrating to have to endure such unnecessary grief! Check out http://www.workrant.com/ to see rants from other frustrated people in jobs they hate!

I am looking forward to perhaps catching a movie or two this week. There are some huge movies out that I would like to see in the theatre including Hellboy 2, Batman Begins and Wall-E. Also waiting to see if Mats Sundin signs in Vancouver. He sure is holding everyone hostage on his decision to retire or not. Mats should just sign somewhere and get on with his summer. Training camp soon approaching Mats!

No poker talk to report. I continue to take a sabbatical from poker (for the most part) until I straighten my mind up and some of these work issues resolve themselves. I have decided when I do return in earnest that I will be going back to the original plan to tile my tables instead of stacking them. Stacking was leading to bad decision making and tilt in my opinion. I really need to see more of what is going on. 9 tables to start and I will be purchasing two 24" high res monitors soon enough in order to expand back out to what will probably be about 15-18 tables max for me. As I have stated before 2008 is to be a setup for a big 2009 when I hope to break a half million vpps. I had hoped to push for 2 or 3 hundred thousand in '08 but with so much stress I am lowering my projections so that I can coast to Supernova and relax going into '09. Relieve some of the pressure then back at it in January with everything in place to help me be successful.

Felt a need to post

Wow, over a month and no post. Frankly I just haven't felt like it. Poker has been awful and I need to rethink my change in approach. Might try sit and gos for awhile.

Since my last post I found out I was not getting a posted lab position at work. Lame. Don't want to think about it while on holidays. Back to work on Saturday. Uggh.

Weathers hot and that is great with me. Hotter the better.

WSOP main event starts today and again I'm not there and again I did not bother trying this year. Fear of failure? Could be. I make alot of excuses for not trying sometimes. Then again I have had alot on my plate. Also, played a ton of Civ last month. Very addicting even after a couple years. Sick.

Last movie I saw in the theatre I believe was Iron Man. Very good movie. In fact could be the best comic hero movie Ive seen. Up there with Hellboy and Batman Begins. Might already of blogged on it. Last DVD was The Prestige which was really good and really surprised me. Watching Madagascar with my son right now. Oh yeah watched Cars 35 times last week too. LOL. Pretty good the first couple of times! Looking forward to checking out the Pixar movie Wall-E which is getting unreal reviews.96% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes which is unheard of and #6 on the IMDB alltime 250 greatest movie list. Those are huge numbers.
