Go Canada Go

On a bit of a downswing this week after a couple of pretty good weeks. I was up a couple hundred on Monday until I had a meltdown that lasted about 5 minutes and -$400 but I fear I had a bit of a hangover to today's play and dumped another couple hundred today. Basically had AA cracked postflop by KK after getting very committed preflop. Then made a horrible allin call with KK to a large stack EP limper who repopped a late position raiser who said he folded QQ and myself who had just called him. A minute later on a third table I flopped top set of JJ but just didnt raise out a straight draw enough on the flop and ended up getting commtted to the hand on the turn when he hit his hand and was pushed in on the river. UGGh. Today was just a steady drain and I just could not get anything positive going. Eventually quit holdem and donked off an extra $50 playing various limit games. Not a horrid day because I quit before it got too ugly but still a downer after yesterday's donk off. Combined down $421 for the two days. Consolation being I picked up about 2150 vpps and have closed to within 7400 of Supernova. Looking good for sometime late next week to hit it! I've been doing some quick calculations again and I'm thinking I will be very dissappointed if I do not make at least $15000 in 2008.

Last week I won a seat in the WCOOP $530 StudHI/lo event by winning a $39 freezeout. It was a great setup as the top 14 out of I believe 36 runners got their money back and the winner got the seat. I won the satellite but as usual I have unregistered and taken the money. So far I have not played any events and because of my work schedule landing on days of events I would play I very likely will not be playing any this year. Eventually I will have to start taking shots at bigtime tourneys. As I convert fpps to $T this will happen by default.

The hockey game last week was a lot of fun. Canada was absolutely dominant as expected but the Russians got chippy near the end and the line brawl that ensued capped off a fun night with Dad and Mark. At first I was a little apathetic to the game and just enjoying the night out and the atmosphere of the arena but the energy in the building built up all night and in the end the game itself was a real good one to be at. Looking forward to watching more live hockey this year! I really miss live events and this was a nice taste of what to expect from seeing more.

The financial picture for the family is starting to look up as poker revenue is becoming more and more secure. The Forestry strike has the potential however to shut down work for a few months. That could put a lot of pressure on me to find other sources of income to stay ahead. We are very close to getting into a constant state of black and I am not eager for another setback after so many years of financial struggle. One of the reasons I work so hard at poker is I see the light at the end of the tunnel for the first time in years. It's been not only a great leisure activity. It has been a source of hope to get ahead in a big way. So it sure would be nice to start picking the fruit of my labours!

Hitting some goals

It has been too long between posts. Summer's over. My march to Supernova is not. 85000 vpps as of today. But today I will reach another important milestone that will help propel my bankroll. $3000 worth of fpps banked. I set that as an arbitrary amount a few months ago that would serve as a reserve in case of bankroll problems. Now that I am about to cross that total I can begin converting fpps into cash money! Very good news (as I will very likely be laid off for a couple of months come this fall due to the Forestry strike in BC). The next goal will be 100000 vpps and that should happen within a few weeks.

Ok, I know that is all nitty shit no one else gives a rats ass about but to me it's been a huge grind and quite an accomplishment. A lot of effort. A lot of my spare time has gone into this and my TV watching has really suffered! ;P.

And how about Team Canada junior team. Up 5 games to 0 on Team Russia! How dominant is that. The Russians will need to really dig deep or else they are going to be very embarrassed. I am scheduled to watch game 8 in Vancouver on the 9th. At this point the series is decided but I am hoping to see some good hockey and some great junior players.
