Freeroll Cash and a big Woops!
The other post marked for the 26th is actually from the wee morning hours of the 25th, so this is the Saturday post.
We had expected some snow today but only some light flurries showed up. That is actually a good thing as I think I'm about done with snow this year! We had at least some snow on the ground for 2 months straight from Mid November to Mid January. I had never seen that before around here but then again when we moved up to the lake it elevated us a few hundred feet up in behind Malahat Mountain. Definately a different climate around this area then down in Victoria.
I did end up playing quite a lot this afternoon. I busted early in the 20k and made a mistake in the 50k when I really had a good chance to cash. But if it had gone my way, again it would have put me right up with the chip leaders at the time. The 100k freeroll went quite well for the most part. I went fairly deep and cashed for $100 finishing 163rd out of 5292 starters. I'm happy with that but I don't like the way I finally busted. I basically went card dead for a long time and never got my chips in until quite late. There was not a whole lot I could do but I might have tried to steal from late position a couple times when I had a chance. It was tough though as there were some very aggressive big stacks at my table throwing their weight around. I just had terrible cards and could not take advantage of them finally getting it in with only 3-4 bb's with K5s called by 88 who ended up catching 2 more 8's for quads just to rub it in!!
On the cash tables I was playing really well today. I've noted that my preflop raise % climbed quite a bit today and I am really hoping to push it up over 5% in the next little while. I was also really trying to raise my V$IP (volutary put $ in pot) % as well by calling preflop with position more often.
As I said I was doing well up 2.5 buyins when I played a hand that I just totally misread getting it in when my QQ hit a set on the turn. A guy who had been playing quite loose checked into me on the flop and turn but repopped me and went all the way when that Q hit his straight. Check out the line here and you can see why I had no idea what he had and that he had hit. There is really nothing I can do here. He raised me preflop flop to $4 from the cutoff and I merely call in the bb. My first mistake I suppose. 1086 flop w/ 2 hearts and I check and he checks for the free card. Wow, I am really passive here arn't I! When the Q hits me on the turn I figure I am good. No way I'm thinking J9 here or 79. With 2 hearts on the board I am thinking lower set for him trying to take away a flush draw. He really delays his raise too which really set the hook into me. I was like sweet I got ya sucker.....WOOPS!

I dunno. Very tough to make the right read there but then again I was so passive preflop and on the flop that I gave him every opportunity to make a hand there. I was trying to set a trap for him here and it just totally backfired. Unfortunately, his hand was very well disguised both by his preflop raise from the cutoff and by his check behind on the flop. I almost always try to take a pot down with a draw by betting it. Especially when I have raised preflop. I will almost always continuation bet there. He decided to take a look and in this instance it paid off for him.....so while I disagree with his line in this hand it ended up making me look foolish and my br lighter by about $99!
