New Year's at the casino

Just a quick note. No goals yet, but will be forthcoming, along with some current strategies on achieving said goals.

I did play a few orbits of 1/2 NLH at the casino today. Lisa and I just went in to look around and dump $10 in the slots and found they had spread some electronic NLH tables. NO dealer or chips but sort of a live/online hybrid. Fast pace for a casino game. Pretty tough to get many tells as no one is fumbling chips. And not much talking. But, still it was an interesting experience for me since I have never played poker in a live setting with complete strangers. It is odd how big a disconnect there is in online poker. To actually see your opponents is a huge advantage. Almost instantly I was able to place these guys into categories and to a large extent from what I saw my instincts were holding true. I was only able to play a few orbits but it was super interesting. It had been a long time since my heart got pumping from playing poker and the fact we were using a foreign interface did not help. But I think I did alright. I almost had a small stack allin fairly quickly when he was calling down my KK but I was fumbling around so much that I think I gave off a bit more strength than I meant too and he got away with the remainder of his stack. The one thing that kind of surprised me but actually did correspond with what I had heard was how soft the live game is supposedly. I think there may have been one or two decent players at the table. At least, players who might give me trouble in the long run. The guy to my immediate left seemed to have a decent idea of what he was doing and in the time I was there he ran very hot as well. He got a couple of wild players allin and had a set of JJ's the first time and top two pair flush draw the second time vs a guy with top pair top kicker. Two things though led me to believe he was actually not very experienced. First he didn't know what the auto-muck button did and secondly he actually thought about folding his A8s double paired flush draw on the turn when the guy to his left put him allin. I woulda been insta calling here because that guy had just sat down and looked ready to blow some money. The way he bet out was reckless like he was gambling on decent but beaten hand. Other than that there were a couple of loose fishies. One guy won a three way preflop allin pot with Q9o for crying out loud. After he had sucked out trips he was like, thats the best hand Ive had all day! Huh?? That is like a fucking awful starting hand you donk!! LOL. Anyway, one kid looked scared to be there and I think was there with his buddy who looked coked out and was gambling it up. He was actually playing with chips in his hand which was funny because we were not using chips.... The other guys included a couple of asian guys who were complete rocks. The tightest guy at the table showed his KK when he got no action with it. He was like throwing his hands up like awww damn. There was some eye-rolling there as he wasn't playing nothing. But who knows I only played a couple dozen hands at most. The funniest character was the classic wannabe kid (no not me!) in a leather jacket and FullTilt Poker hat and shirt. Acting all tough and looking nervous and buys in for only $60. Yeah, good luck mate. Anyway it was short but like I say it was a good experience.
